Vineyards first...

Before the whole family relocates in Chassagne from Paris, the vine culture is given to a local vintner :  "Père Robe" will also make wines and start bottling « à la propriété », which was a rare practice at that time.

The traditional way for most vintners is to sell bulk all their harvest, via a broker, to a wine merchant  of Beaune or Nuits-Saint-Georges.  The merchant will age the wines, bottle them and sell them back to a Paris retailer.
